Beach Replenishment Finishing in Avalon

Oh no, what happened to the beach? My wife and I walked to the beach this past Saturday expecting to tan ourselves and saw machines digging up sand instead.

Avalon, NJ is currently undergoing what is becoming a yearly tradition of replenishing the beach. Fall and Winter storms eroded much of the sand, but thanks to modern technology and federal grants beachgoers have nothing to fear. A news release from the Borough of Avalon says, "All beaches in Avalon will be open for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend." Read the full release here.

Check out the slideshow below for a picture of what the beach looked like on 30th Street where the replenishment was already finished.

  1. I always wanted to see how they did that to beaches? I was wondering what the horseshoe crab situation is like Avalon?
